Exhibition 2023

September 9/10th we are holding our second Festival of Model Railways & Transport Modelling at Leigh Sports Village.

Daleside TMD – Fred Holt Leigh Model Railway Society, 8ft x 2ft, Fictional yard based in the North West, 1995 to present day, Analogue, Have a go layout

Akuno Station – Pete Sayers Aire Valley Railway Modellers Club, 9ft x 4ft, a busy fictional Japanese station on two levels, contemporary diesel units, freight & snow removing trains, Analogue

Hogwarts – Don Hesketh, 4ft x 2ft, Railway based on Harry Potter, Steam, DCC Sound

Winter Scene – Caroline Hesketh, 4ft x 2ft, A country station & surroundings set in winter, 1930s, Steam, DCC Sound

OO Gauge

Oulton TMD – Allan Cromarty Stafford Model Railway Society, 33ft x 15ft, fictional Traction Maintenance Depot set in the Midlands, 1990s, BR Sectorisation, DCC Sound

Hind-Leigh Yard – Hindley Green Model Railway Group, 8ft x 6ft, Industrial yard with factories etc, 1970s, BR Green Diesel, DCC Sound

Ellesmere – Phil Greaves, 30ft x 6, Ellesmere in Shropshire, 1958 to 1962, BR (ex GWR) Steam, Analogue

Euxton Junction – Carl Bowden Preston & District Model Railway Society, 34ft x 13ft, West Coast Mainline Euxton Junction, 2000-2010, DCC Sound

Mikebiltom and Fredby Network Rail Depot – Tom Lowther Tame Valley Model Railway Club, 26ft x 9ft, Fictional Network Rail Depot set in the North West with visiting preserved steam locos on rail tours, Present Day, Analogue

Wilson Road – James Harvey Leigh Model Railway Society, 24ft x 5ft, Liverpool area 1970s – 1980s, BR Blue, DCC Sound

Middleton Road – Stockport & District Railway Modellers, 15ft x 6ft, Manchester area, 1950s, BR Steam, Analogue

Clayton End Signalman – David & Sue George, 21ft x 8ft, Fictional location in the Peak District, 1960’s to present day, DCC sound

Carrowbeg – Ian Mulroy, 28ft x 16ft, Based around Westport in County Mayo Ireland, 1990 to 2010, Irish rolling stock, DCC Sound. Carrowbeg was selected by all those that attended the show as our 2023 Best in Show, congratulations to the layout owners and operators during the weekend!

Kids Drive It – Leigh Model Railway Society (layout kindly built & supplied by Sawyer Models of Leigh), 6ft x 4ft, Fictional town, all Era’s including Thomas & Friends, Analogue

Moss End MPD – Wirral O Gauge Group, 12ft x 6ft, Motive Power Depot South West of London, 1950s – 1960s, BR Steam, DCC Sound

Dalry Road, Ian Atkinson Bradford Model Railway Club, 24ft x 8ft, Scotland, 1965-1970, BR Green Diesel, Analogue – sadly Dalry Road didn’t make it to the exhibition this year due to illness, we wish the, a speedy recovery!

Bryncrug Sidings – this layout has been kindly offered at short notice due to illness for the owners of the Dalry Road O gauge layout.

Brian Davis Rainhill Model Railway Club – Making Realistic Wagon Loads. Watch Brian’s talented hands demonstrating how to build and make realistic wagon loads. He will happily answer any questions you may have.

Stan Crane Leigh Model Railway Society – Scratch Building. Watch Stan create buildings from scratch. Just plastic card and tools is all he needs. Stan will answer any questions you have.

The Veteran’s club will be showing you how to build plastic kits of planes, tanks etc as well as having a display of models they have built plus a demo of Wargaming.
